Trusted Regina Auto body Shop Bergens Auto Body answers CAN YOU PAINT MATCH MY VEHICLE?

Bergens Auto Body is a local family collision repair business and from the moment you walk in the door you will be treated like family!

They are proud to have an amazing 80 Years Auto Body Experience, and they have been serving Regina Auto Body needs for over 30 Years....they have a loyal customer base that simply wouldn't think of going anywhere else. Bergen's Auto Body are a  Trusted Regina Auto Body Shop, they offer courtesy cars to their clients and they specialize in foreign vehicles. In their latest Trusted Regina Auto Body Tip they share information on paint matching.

CAN BERGENS AUTO BODY GUARANTEE PAINT MATCHING?

Q: WILL THE PAINT MATCH ON MY VEHICLE AFTER MY AUTO BODY / COLLISION REPAIRS ARE DONE?

So you need to get you car fixed after an accident or collision. A safe repair is most important to the customers of our body shop in Regina, SK   but most consumers of newer vehicles are really concerned that the vehicle gets returned to its factory appearance. There are many techniques we employ to make a color match exactly to the rest of the factory paint on the car, such as blending and tinting. As auto body repair professionals we are faced with many challenges in matching the factory paint, so we thought we would share the process and challenges with you.

First challenge: The Factory Standard

The first challenge is the factory standard. Today, the average paint code has between three to seven alternates that are worth formulating. There is actually more but the auto paint manufacturers have narrowed them to down to keep the databases simple to use.

So why do the car manufacturers have so many variances?

Most manufacturers have three major paint suppliers. The manufacturer decides on a standard color for production and submits a painted sample to their suppliers. The paint manufacturer then produces a formula for the “standard sample” and is allowed a tolerance of plus or minus 5% when they deliver the paint.

Second challenge: Manufacturers geographical variance

The plant in the east coast may be getting a 5% shade greener on a blue metallic standard and the plant in the west coast may be getting a 5% shade violet on the same blue metallic standard. When compared side by side, they look like a completely different colour. This is the reason the paint manufacturers usually have the standard formula followed by two alternates. If the alternates are not available, the painter in the body shop usually mixes the standard formula and tints it accordingly.

The second reason for variances in paint colours is the metallic colour applications. The metallic colours are now classified in 7 categories. Extra fine, fine, medium, medium coarse, coarse, and extra coarse. The metallic colours control the value (lightness and darkness) of the color similar to what white does in a pastel color.

Metallic colors will cause variances in color when applied. Temperature, paint film thickness, flash off time between coats, fluid tip sizes, speed of the spray gun, surface type (Plastic or Metal) and humidity will all cause the color to shift lighter or darker.

The rule of thumb: the longer it takes to dry, the darker the color will change as it dries. This is caused by pigment flotation. The metallic flakes will settle down to the bottom of the paint film and push the pigment up causing the color to shift darker.

Yet despite these challenges, a good auto body painter can match your factory paint, using manufacturers’ paint codes, spray panel testing, and here at Bergens we have decades of good old-fashioned experience.

So the answer is yes, the paint will match if you are using a reputable body shop like Bergens.

5 THINGS A CAR OWNER SHOULD DO - TO PREVENT AND HELP IF YOU HAVE AN ACCIDENT

Owning a car is a big responsibility for both new and seasoned drivers. In order to reduce stress further down the line, there are a few key things every driver should know. Luckily, these necessary basics are pretty easy to find out!

Learn the basics of maintenance. That means checking things the oil brake fluid, antifreeze, and windshield wiper fluid. Even better, learn to jump your car in case the battery dies and replace a tire. Everything you learn becomes a tool in case of emergency. Why not invest a little bit of time for less of a headache later on?

Find your car’s manual and read it. Read it again! Put it in a place where you can easily locate it again. Why? There is a lot of information specifically for your make, model, and year. Your manual will tell you which maintenance tasks should be prioritized, as well as how often those things should be addressed. Some critical ones to keep in mind are oil changes, wiper blade replacement, filter changes, fluid flushes, and when to get new tires. In addition, it will tell you what each light on the dash indicates.

Know where your personal identification is, who your insurance provider is, and where the documentation for insurance and registration is stored at. It’s simple enough to keep it in your car, and that will certainly do the job. But in the case of an emergency, the last thing you want to do is have to go digging through the glove box, center console, and through all the other cubbies and pockets your car has just to find it. Do yourself a favor, and keep it in one spot so that you can find it and reach it easily.

Put an emergency kit in your trunk. Jumper cables, a flashlight, spare tire, and a first aid kit are incredibly important. Consider also including some weather specific gear like sunscreen, a towel, blankets, umbrellas, etc. Safety first!

Bergens auto body shares news of changes to SGI Claims process happening soon!

Saskatchewan drivers now have a new way for processing collision claims through Saskatchewan Government Insurance (SGI), specifically for minor damages, like in a fender bender-type collision. Drivers can soon choose to take their vehicles to an auto body repair shop approved by SGI, where both the estimate and repairs will be done.

The minister responsible for SGI Don McMorris said the new setup will allow drivers to have vehicle repairs completed at the same shop where the claim is filed. SGI's claims centres will still be open and employ the same number of staff. They'll still be an option for drivers with minor damages, and they'll continue to handle larger damage, such as total losses. Where the vehicle will go will still be determined when a driver initially files the claim. The government says an audit process is in place to ensure body shops remain objective in their assessment. "People from SGI will be evaluating, you know, a spot evaluation of the body shop to make sure the damage was accurately assessed," McMorris said. "It's a benefit to the customer, it's a benefit to the body shop, as well as SGI. It gets some of that work out of our adjustment centres." McMorris said repair shops will also be subject to annual training.

Approximately 20 repair shops in the province are already doing damage estimates for drivers, SGI said. It hopes 180 shops will be accredited to do so by the end of the year. SGI estimated that there are more than 200,000 auto damage claims in Saskatchewan each year.

While Bergens Auto Body Regina appreciate your business, we know it's never fun to get into a collision in the first place.

Here they share a tip on Deductible Payment Plan:

You can use the Deductible Payment Plan to finance your deductible over a period of 10 months

We understand that coming up with the deductible can sometimes be tough on your budget.

It doesn't matter how your vehicle was damaged - collision, vandalism, hail or theft - if you have a deductible to pay, and you're eligible, you can access the plan.

You're eligible for the plan if your personal vehicle is both:

  • registered in the LV or F classes
  • covered by basic licence plate insurance

You're not eligible for the plan if:

Getting signed up

When you first report your claim to SGI, your adjuster will go over the program with you and let you know if you're eligible.

When you take your vehicle to SGI to be appraised, you'll get an application form to fill out. You can do 1 of 2 things:

  • You can fill out the form at that time and attach a void cheque.
  • You can give the completed form and void cheque to the autobody shop of your choice when you take your vehicle to be repaired.

Payment schedule

Your payments will start once your vehicle is fixed.

When you pick up your repaired vehicle, you must pay the autobody shop a down payment of $100.

For the balance of the deductible, a payment will be automatically deducted from your bank account over a period of 10 months. There is no interest charged, but a one-time administration fee of $30 will be charged with your first payment under the plan.

Maximum number of claims under the plan

You're allowed up to 3 claims through the plan at a time, as long as your account with SGI is in good standing on previous claims.
